Peeking Through the Curtain: Physics with Complex Optical Media
December 7th, 2017 GIORGIO VOLPE University College London

Disorder, which arises naturally when coherent light propagates through complex media, is still widely regarded as a nuisance to be minimised in many scientific and technological problems. However, in the last decade, we have witnessed a change of paradigm in many fields in optics and photonics, where disorder is emerging as a resource rather than a nuisance. In this talk, I will show how random light fields known as speckles can become versatile tools for a wide range of fundamental and applied studies in imaging, coherent control and optical manipulation.
