Non-Gaussian Quantum Fluctuations and Quantum Spin-Model within the Spin of Dysprosium Atom

Ultracold samples of atomic Dysprosium is a versatile platform for quantum simulations. Complex electronic shell causes particular properties of Dysprosium, such as spin of big size (J=8) or non-vanishing tensorial polarizability of the ground state. The former provides spin states space of dimensionality of 17, whereas the latter provides special way of a state manipulation. For example, slightly off-resonant light can induce non-linear coupling between spin components, which leads to non-linear spin dynamics and can be used for simulation of number of models.

In the talk, we will discuss preparation of non-classical spin states, which gain interest in the metrological sense. We will also discuss realization of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model of mutually interacting spins, which exhibits a ferromagnetic phase transition in the thermodynamic limit. We study the transition and test the link between symmetry breaking and the appearance of a finite order parameter, in the ferromagnetic phase.
