ICFO appoints a new Junior Group Leader
Prof. Romain Quidant leads the plasmon nano-optics group

Prof. Romain Quidant has recently been appointed Junior Group Leader at the Institute. He will lead the Plasmon Nano-Optics group, that aims at investigating novel approaches based on the plasmon properties of noble metal nanostructures to extend down to the sub-wavelength scale concepts and key functionalities of conventional optics.
Dr. Romain Quidant obtained his Physics Master Degree and his Postgraduate Degree at the Université de Bourgogne (France). On 2002, he was named best junior scientist of “La Fondation Carnot” where is now an active junior member. Afterwards, he secured a postdoctoral grant “Torres Quevedo” and on January 2006 he was awarded an ICREA junior contract.
Since 2002 Dr. Quidant has been working in different projects in the nanophotonics devices group at ICFO. Within this four-year period, he has coordinated activities on plasmon optics, the e-beam lithography facilities and the Network of Excellence “Plasmon Nano-Devices”. He also has supervised and co-supervised four PhD theses and he has been the project manager of the European project “ESF/NOMSAN”.
Dr. Quidant’s research interests cover several research topics, such as micro- and nano-optical manipulation with plasmon fields, 2D plasmon-based miniaturized optical elements and enhanced light-matter interaction at the nanoscale.
