2006 OSA Excellence Award to the ICFO Student Chapter

The Optical Society of America awards the ICFO Student Chapter in its annual meeting

October 24, 2006
The ICFO Student Chapter has been awarded the Excellence Award 2006 established by the Optical Society of America to recognize outstanding achievements of local sections and student chapters. During the Plenary and Awards Ceremony at the 90th OSA Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics on Monday, October 9th, the ICFO chapter was officially awarded the price.

The Excellence Award is given to the best student chapter, among the 100 OSA Student Chapters that are scattered around the world. The award recognizes important contributions and outstanding achievements in the area of section programming and outreach efforts of the student chapters.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2006, the Optical Society of America brought together an international network of the industry's pre-eminent optics and photonics scientists, engineers, educators, technicians and business leaders. Representing more than 80 different countries, OSA promotes the worldwide generation, application and dissemination of optics and photonics knowledge through its meetings, events and journals.

The ICFO Student Chapter is the first OSA chapter located in southern Europe. The main motivations of the organization are to enhance the career opportunities for the student members, by getting them exposed to the worldwide Photonics community and by the promotion of educational activities on a long term.
