ICFO awarded a new COFUND PhD fellowship program

The EC will provide funding for up to 20 new doctoral students through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND action

April 08, 2019
ICFO has recently been awarded highly competitive funding for a new doctoral fellowship program via the European Commission´s Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND action. This project, entitled ENLIGHTEN, aims at recruiting outstanding early stage researchers to carry out ambitious PhD-projects at ICFO in a wide range of topics at the forefront of the photonic sciences, equipping successful candidates with unique capabilities to become future leaders in the academic and industrial worlds. It will offer 20 highly competitive fellowships of 36 month duration, through 4 calls.

The European Commission’s COFUND action offers additional funding for new or existing regional, national and international programs to provide an international and intersectoral dimension to research training and career development. ICFO currently runs the ICFO Stepstone program encompassing two COFUND-actions which have awarded a total of 45 PhD fellowships to outstanding doctoral candidates to carry out their PhD at the institute between 2016 and 2022. Likewise, the ICFONest+ COFUND-action, an equivalent program for post-doctoral researchers that ran at the institute from 2014-2018, attracted fellows from institutes of reference from around the world, including Stanford University (USA), Harvard University (USA), Griffith University (Australia), ENS Paris (France), FOM-Institute AMOLF Amsterdam (NL), among others.
