The Institute welcomes new members

Admin support, two Postdoctoral researchers, and two visiting researchers join the Institute

March 03, 2007
Two Postdoctoral researchers, Florian Kulzer and Sudhir Cherukulappurath ; two visiting Scientists, Agata Checinska and Juan Pablo Staforelli and one new member in the administration area, Patricia Romera, have joined ICFO.

Florian Kulzer joins Niek van Hults’s group. He will focus on photo-thermal microscopy. This technique allows the detection of individual metal and semiconductor particles with a high signal-to-noise ratio, down to diameters of only a few nanometers. He will exploit these favorable properties of the photothermal approach to implement fast 3D-tracking of nanometer-sized gold labels for investigations in biological systems.

Sudhir Cherukulappurath joins Romain Quidant’s group. He will work on the design and optical characterization with non linear methods of metallic nanolenses able to confine light down to the nanometer scale.

Agata Checinska will be working in the Single-Atoms group lead by Jürgen Eschner, in modeling quantum feedback experiments with single trapped ions, in close collaboration with the experimentalists of the group and co-supervised by Maciej Lewenstein.

Juan Pablo Staforelli joins Prof. Dmitri Petrov’s group. He is assisting with experiments on measuring radiation forces and torques produced by surface plasmons.

Patricia Romera has joined ICFO in the Management Unit in the administration area. Her work will be connected to the Engineering and Utilities Unit.
