PhD student Can Yao

ICFO PhD student Can Yao awarded at the IONS student conference held recently in Salamanca. ICFO PhD student Can Yao won the \'Most Creative Presentation Award\' at the scientific session of the 9th IONS (International OSA Network of Students) conference held in Salamanca, Spain, on April 7-9. Three other members of ICFO student chapter ICONS, Osamu Takayama, Venkata Ramaiah Badarla, and Giorgio Volpe, contributed to the meeting.

Can Yao is a PhD student in the organic nanostructured photovoltaics group led by Prof. Jordi Martorell. Can deliver her presentation on ´Second-harmonic speckle in transparent random ferroelectric structures´ in the form of a poem illustrated with images of experimental results and simulations. The work was done in collaboration with ICFO research fellow Dr. Francisco Rodríguez.

IONS student conference aims at the networking of young researchers all over the world and is held twice a year in Europe. ICONS organized the first and fifth conferences at ICFO. This year the event held the presentation of research and chapter activities from participating centers. It focused on career developments for students offering tips on presentations, scientific writing, and patent design.

Next IONS conference will be organized in Southampton, UK, in summer 2011. Anyone interested is welcome to attend!
