Sixteen new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of July. Welcome aboard! Two postdoctoral researchers, Iacopo Torre, Gustavo Castro, three research engineers, Mariona Dalmases, Pablo Vaccaro, and Shengtai Shi, one PhD student, Daniel Martinez Cercos, and ten students, Shawheen Tosifian, Daniel Allepuz Requena, Alba Torras Coloma, Renzo Bruera, Alba María Damián Gonzalez, Alberto Edo Pérez, Teo Gil Moreno de Mora Sardà, Bernat Molero Agudo, María Pedrosa Bustos, Beatriu Domingo Tafalla, have joined ICFO in the month of July.

Iacopo Torre, who obtained his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (IT), is joining the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a postdoctoral researcher. During his stay, he will be focusing on topological nanophotonics.

Gustavo Castro, who obtained his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Is now joining the Super-resolution Light Microscopy & Nanoscopy Lab led by Dr. Pablo Loza as a postdoctoral researcher. At ICFO, Gustavo will be working on the Mesobrain project, studying and understanding the functional activity of neurons using light sheet fluorescence imaging.

Mariona Dalmases, who earned her PhD degree in Nanoscience from the University of Barcelona is now joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a research engineer. At ICFO, Mariona will be working on the development and synthesis of infrared colloidal quantum dots based on Pb and Hg based chalcogenides.

Pablo Vaccaro, who earned his MSc in Physics in 1986 and his PhD in Physics degree in 1991, from the Balseiro Institute in Bariloche, Argentina, is now joining the NanoFabrication Lab as a Nanophotonics Engineer. At ICFO, he will be carrying out tasks and responsibilities related to developing advanced nanofabrication processes and training users on fabrication and characterization techniques.

Shengtai Shi, who received his MSc degree in Microelectronics from Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, is joining the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Frank Koppens as a research engineer. At ICFO, he will be conducting research in graphene and QD photodetectors as well as giving technical support to the research group.

Daniel Martinez Cercos, who obtained his Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Barcelona, is now joining the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a Phd Student. At ICFO, he will be conducting his doctoral studies in the development of FPGA tools for a quantum gas experiment.

Shawheen Tosifian, who is pursuing a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, USA, is now joining the Quantum Information With Cold Atoms And Non-classical Light research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Morgan Mitchell as a student. At ICFO, he will be learning and acquiring research experience within research projects related to quantum optics.

Daniel Allepuz Requena, who is pursuing a BSc degree in Physics from the University of Barcelona, is now joining the Ultracold Quantum Gases research group led by ICFO Prof. Leticia Tarruell as a student. During his stay, Daniel will be studying and developing quantum devices and systems for industrial deployment.

Alba Torras Coloma, who is pursuing he BSc in Physics from the University of Barcelona, is now joining the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a student. During her stay, she will be learning and acquiring research experience within photonics research projects.

Renzo Bruera, who is pursuing his BSc in Physics at the University of Barcelona, has joined the Knowledge & Technology Transfer group led by Dr. Silvia Carrasco, as a student. During his stay, he will be centered on developing outreach activities oriented towards quantum physics concepts.

Alba María Damián Gonzalez, who is pursuing her BSc in Physics from the University of Córdoba has joined the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran as a summer fellow. During her stay, she will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.

Alberto Edo Pérez, who is pursuing his BSc degree in Human Biology from the University Pompeu Fabra is joining the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO Prof. Michael Krieg as a summer fellow. During his stay, he will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.

Teo Gil Moreno, who is pursuing his BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is joining the Ultracold Quantum Gases research group led by ICFO Prof. Leticia Tarruell as a summer fellow. During his stay, he will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.

Bernat Molero Agudo, who is pursuing his BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is joining the Plasmon Nano-Optics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Romain Quidant as a summer fellow. During his stay, he will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.

María Pedrosa Bustos, who is pursuing her BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos as a summer fellow. During her stay, she will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.

Beatriu Domingo Tafalla, who is pursuing her BSc degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is joining the SLN research facility group led by Dr. Stefan Wieser as a summer fellow. During her stay, she will be conducting research on the different topics carried out by the group.
