09 October 2018 UPC Thesis Awards 2018

Dr. Domink Kufer and Dr. Martí Perarnau

The UPC recognizes two ICFO PhD graduates with the Extraordinary PhD Thesis Award The Extraordinary PhD Awards, given annually by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), aim to recognize the best doctoral theses which have obtained "cum laude" in their final PhD defense evaluation. This year, the UPC announced the list of 9 awardees, which include the theses of ICFO PhD graduates Dr. Domink Kufer and Dr. Martí Perarnau among the list of extraordinary doctoral works for the academic period 2015/201615.

Dr. Dominik Kufer received his Master Diploma in Physics, University of Würzburg (DE) in Germany before joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterialsresearch group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos. At ICFO, he centered his doctoral work on the study of two-dimensional materials with the aid of quantum dots for the development of highly sensitive photodetectors. Dr. Dominik Kufer’s thesis, entitled ‘Photodetectors based on low-dimensional materials and hybrid, was supervised by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Gerasimos Konstantatos.

Dr. Martí Perarnau received his Master in Physics from the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands before joining the Quantum Information Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín. At ICFO, he centered his doctoral work on the study of thermodynamics in quantum systems emphasizing on quantum correlations and entanglement. Dr. Martí Perarnau’s thesis, entitled ‘Thermodynamics and Quantum Correlations’, was supervised by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín.

Congratulations Dominik and Martí for this outstanding award!
