MASTER STUDIES IN OPTICS AND PHOTONICS

Teaming up with Universities and Institutions in the Barcelona area, as well as from other European countries, ICFO offers MASTER STUDIES in optics and photonic related areas. ICFO's Group Leaders offer a variety of courses in these Masters and opportunities to their students to accomplish the compulsory Master Thesis at ICFO.

  • Master in Quantum Science and Technology

The master's degree in Quantum Science and Technologies is the result of the coordinated effort of the Universitat de Barcelona, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, ICFO, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the Institute of High Energy Physics and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, providing access to 60+ cutting-edge theoretical and experimental research groups working on quantum sensing, communication, computing and simulation, fields aligned with major pillars of the European Quantum Flagship.

The program covers the core concepts of quantum science & technology, as well as practical tools and techniques. Engagement with industry is prominent, with high-tech companies actively participating in teaching, offering internships, seminars and a careers symposium. The program provides access to PhD programs at the participating institutes, and will advance the future careers of students interested in working in academia or industry in this exciting and fast-moving field.

The master was founded in parallel with the establishment of the emerging community in quantum technologies, QuantumCat.

  • EUROPHOTONICS EMMC

ICFO, in collaboration with other European institutions, is offering an Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC) EUROPHOTONICS in Photonics Engineering, Nanophotonics and Biophotonics.

ERASMUS MUNDUS is a cooperation and mobility program in the field of higher education, implemented by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and managed by the European Commission.

The EUROPHOTONICS EMMC offers an extensive two-year Master level program focusing on advanced research and applied topics in frontier research in the field of Photonics Engineering, Nanophotonics and Biophotonics, with interdisciplinary applications. Master students who take part in this program are given the opportunity to work on today's new challenges within an academic or applied research career. Research in these fields endeavors to understand and control matter and optical phenomena at the ultimate nanometric scale, provide new imaging and monitoring tools for the most complex biological processes from cells and tissues to clinical applications, and devise new and original tools for future optical devices.

There are scholarships available for deserving students who are interested in joining this Master Program. Description, conditions and information on how to apply can be found in the dedicated webpage of the program.
